A Staffordshire bull terrier had a lucky escape after swallowing a kebab skewer whole.
Patrick, a stray who was brought in to Battersea Dogs' Home, munched the seven-inch long stick which then pierced his ribs and was left sticking out of his side.
The stricken six-month-old pup underwent surgery at the charity's base last week to have the protruding skewer removed.
A survey by Battersea Dogs' Home has revealed some of the unusual items dogs have eaten include a pair of earrings, a tube of glitter and a £20 note.
