A man was rescued from a fire at his flat in Morden last night.
Firefighters from Mitcham were called to Morden Hall Road at 11.45pm, after a resident was awoken by their fire alarm and found their flat alight.
When crews arrived, the resident, a man in his 50s, was unable to get out of his front door due to heavy smoke logging.
Firefighters forced entry and extinguished the fire within 20 minutes.
The man was taken to hospital for smoke inhalation.
Watch manager David Simpson said: "This guy was awoken by his smoke alarm, which just shows how important it is to have one."
