A teacher is appealing for information to reunite her elderly mother with two missing rings which were the only items of jewellery she had left after her home was burgled 14 years ago.

Pat Johnson, 46, hopes to find the two gold rings belonging to her mother, 84, which she believes were lost in Ewell Village on May 1.

Mrs Johnson’s mother had the rings at 10am as she set off along Kingston Road and boarded a bus to Tolworth, but discovered they had gone by the time she arrived.

The teacher, who works at Banstead High School, said the rings are of great sentimental value to her mother.

One of the rings is a 9ct gold, plain band wedding ring, and the other is also a 9ct gold, thick band ring, small in size with a leaf pattern around the band.

The rings were left to Mrs Johnson’s mother by her father and grandmother, and were the only pieces of jewellery she had left after her home in Ewell Village was ransacked by burglars in 1999, who stole jewellery, family heirlooms and antiques.

Mrs Johnson said: "After the burglary the rings were all my mother had left.  They hold great sentimental value."

Since the rings were lost, Mrs Johnson has contacted an insurance company to enable her to buy her mother a new ring, but the claim was rejected.

She added: "I just wanted her to have something."

Mrs Johnson has contacted police, the local bus company and visited nearby shops to try and locate the rings whereabouts.
