A Wimbledon film studio has announced plans to double the size of its media village after increased attention from high profile production companies.

Wimbledon Film and TV Studios, in Deer Park Road, plans to expand its media village which will see it gain a new entrance and an extra 8,000 sq feet of office space to house at least 75 media companies.

The studio, which has housed productions including The Iron Lady and The Bill, said demand from high-profile media and broadcast companies, and the convenience of having a number of services in one place, has made Wimbledon an "increasingly attractive” location for large-scale productions.

Piers Read, managing director, said expansion plans had been made following the attention the studios have received from the industry since opening in 2010.

He said: "We’ve already expanded our offering to include a new studio to accommodate large scale TV productions and we can’t see it slowing down.

"The migration of companies from other studios and the increasingly high profile productions that choose to film here only adds credence to that."

The studio said they are in advanced talks with long-standing established production companies about moving their headquarters into Wimbledon's Media Village.

The new media village will be complete and ready for new tenants on June 15.
