The future of Kingston’s fire service will be discussed at a public meeting next month.

The London Fire Brigade will be inviting residents to have their say on services in both Kingston and Richmond during an event on Tuesday, June 4.

The meeting comes as the brigade consults on the draft fifth London safety plan, which proposes saving almost £30m over the next three years by closing 12 fire stations and cutting 520 firefighter jobs.

It will see average response times across the capital maintained, although some will be increased.

Early proposals included losing one of Kingston’s two fire engines, but the idea did not make it to the final plan.

The meeting will be held at Clarendon Hall in York House, Richmond Road, Twickenham from 7pm to 9pm.

The plans can be viewed here.

The consultation closes on June 17.
