AFC Wimbledon will screen a special director's cut of the 1988 FA Cup final to mark the 25th anniversary of the club’s historic victory against Liverpool tonight (May 14).

The re-run of Wimbledon’s 1-0 triumph will be shown in the middle bar at the Cherry Red Records Stadium at Kingsmeadow, Kingston, with commentary from manager Bobby Gould, who managed the winning side.

The man who guided Wimbledon to one of the biggest FA Cup shocks will provide a unique insight into how the Crazy Gang beat a Liverpool side who dominated football in the 1980s.

Bobby is particularly looking forward to the special event as he has never watched a re-run of the memorable match.

He said: “The only piece of the match I have watched is when Vinnie Jones did that tackle on Steve McMahon.

“So it will be new territory for me when I come to the club – it will be a fantastic way to celebrate the achievement with supporters that wither went to the match or watched it on television.”

Recalling the day, he added: “I walked off the pitch with the base of the FA Cup in my hands and looked at the teams that had won the competition.

“Wimbledon joined those teams on that day and no one can take that away from us.”

Tickets cost £3 – each attendee will be able to redeem their ticket for a drink at the bar, which will open at 5.30pm and the screening starts at 7.30pm.
