Police are spending a second day hunting the man who tried to abduct a child in a park on Sunday.

Officers carried out increased patrols as they track a tall, bald man who grabbed a 12-year-old girl in Beddington Park on Sunday.

The child was walking along an alley behind Meller Close when the man took her by the wrists and told her to "come with me" at about 5.45pm.

The girl managed to escape the man's clutches by wriggling out of her hooded top and running away.

The incident sparked a manhunt as police took to the streets to find the suspect.

Today police called at houses in the Guy Road area, near the alley where the attack happened, and say people have been very helpful with information and offers of support.

A spokesman said: "We picked up information yesterday and this is being followed up.

"As a result of yesterday's action we have a lot more information coming in.

"We've still got extra patrols on in the area and around nearby schools.

"Everyone we have spoken to so far has been very helpful and supportive."

Police are looking for a white, bald man who is about 6ft 3in tall, slim and speaks with a local accent.

It is believed he walked from the junction of Guy Road and Croydon Road to the alley near the junction of Guy Road and Beddington Lane before attacking the girl.

Officers have advised parents to make sure they know their children's whereabouts and to make sure they have planned their routes home.
