Stuart Hazell was described as "a man who has an extraordinary capacity for living through lies" by his own counsel.

On Monday Lord Alex Carlile told the court Hazell had a troubled childhood, with his father in prison and his mother working as a prostitute, Hazell was taken into care at a young age.

From his early teens he was involved in petty crime and started drinking when he was aged 13.

His first conviction was when he was 14, and two years later he claims he was raped after ending up at a homeless hostel in Soho.

The window cleaner had a history of depression, self harm, suicide attempts, drug use and alcoholism, Lord Carlile said.

After a short relationship with Tia's mother Natalie, lasting no more than two weeks, he was then in a relationship with her mother Christine Bicknell for five and a half years.
