A Chessington school was flooded early this morning after a mains pipe burst.
Infants’ and nursery classes at St Mary’s School in Church Lane were suspended today after the leak.
No one was hurt in the flood, which happened before classes started, the school said.
Nursery and reception classes set for tomorrow have also been cancelled, while Years 1-6 will continue as normal.
Bursar Louise Mellors said the burst pipe caused a ceiling to collapse and flood the entire infants’ area of the school.
She said: “We have had fantastic support from contractors, parents, and staff. They have been working all day to salvage what they can.
“It is a question of drying the room and making sure they are safe for children to come back in.
“Luckily no one was around.”
An IT suite and the library were affected by the flooding, she added, which saw three inches of water spread throughout the building.
