A mother and two young children were taken to hospital after a suspected gas leak at their home last night.

Firefighters were called to the house in Gravel Hill, Addington after its carbon monoxide alarm went off at 9.28pm.

Two crews from Addington station attended the scene, where they cut of the gas supply and evacuated the house.

The family were taken to hospital by paramedics after the mother reported feeling sick, but are not thought to be seriously ill.

Addington fire officer Tony Weeks said the incident highlighted the importance of carbon monoxide alarms.

He said: "Carbon monoxide is very dangerous and the trouble is you can't smell it, hear it or see it.

"Carbon monoxide alarms are every bit as important as fire alarms but with that added danger."
