Four schools are leading the way in encouraging their pupils to lead a healthy lifestyle.

The schools are amongst the first eight in London to receive a Healthy Schools London award sponsored by the Mayor of London.

About 71 schools have been piloting the scheme with schools who had worked closely with the programme selected to attend an awards ceremony at City Hall.

Aerodrome Primary, Parish Church Junior School, St James the Great RC Catholic Primary, and Woodcote High have been encouraging their children to make healthy food choices at lunchtimes and to lead more active lifestyles.

As well as tackling diet issues and exercise, the programme also addresses sex and relationships, emotional health and bullying.

Councillor Tim Pollard, cabinet member for children families and learning, said: “What the healthy schools programme does is to ensure that children understand the benefits of making sure their choices are the right ones.”
