The Town Hall clock is being refurbished as part of ongoing maintenance work.
Work needs to carried out on the surface and the glazing of the clock.
This means the bells need to be turned off for roughly eight weeks between May and July.
This will be done by company Gillett and Johnston who supplied and fitted the clock in 1895.
Councillor Dudley Mead, deputy leader of the council, said: “The reason we decided to carry out these works was so that future generations will be able to continue using what is one of Croydon’s most prestigious assets.”
