Three market traders who have been told to leave Kingston's ancient market ahead of a planned revamp have vowed to stay on beyond their eviction date.
But they could find out tomorrow whether an application to extend their stay in Kingston has been successful.
David Wilson, Angela Lassiter and Lorna Herne were all given a month's notice by town centre manager Kingstonfirst, as they did not fit in with the new vision for the market.
They were given until this Monday, May 13, to pack up and leave before work to turn the 12th century site into a hot and cold food market begins in September.
All three applied to carry on trading beyond that date - but have yet to hear back from Kingstonfirst.
Since no response has been forthcoming, Mr Wilson told the Surrey Comet he could see no reason why he shouldn't open for business as usual on Monday.
Mr Wilson, who has sold records, CDs and DVDs in Kingston for the past 35 years, said: "We've had no feedback whatsoever.
"Angela has repeatedly tried to call them and there's been no response at all.
"Nobody's said anything more to us, and I can see no reason why I shouldn't open on Monday.
"When they gave us our notice, they said we could apply for more time and all three of us have.
"The ball is their court."
A Kingstonfirst spokeswoman said: "We're following our process and in conversation with each market trader individually."
