A new website has launched with the aim of promoting a Wimbledon industrial estate as a major hub for businesses.

The South Wimbledon Business Area (SWBA) launched its new site last week (May 2) at an event at the Wimbledon Studios in Deer Park Road, Morden attended by Councillor Stephen Alambritis, leader of Merton Council, and business leaders based in the area.

The SWBA represents more than 150 businesses based on the Merton Industrial Estate off Morden Road, including Wimbledon Studios, and is the second largest industrial estate in Merton.

Its website seeks to promote the estate as a place to do business as well as providing support and advice to local businesses.

Coun Alambritis said: "The South Wimbledon Business Area is very important to Merton’s economy because of the number of people companies employ and the extensive business trade taking place in the area.

"The area also benefits from a mix of small independent businesses and large national and international companies."

John Simpson, chairman of the SWBA and entertainment lighting company White Light, said he hoped the website would encourage more businesses into the area.

He said: "This would help ensure that we can continue to develop the estate in ways that meet their needs and companies would benefit from the marketing of their goods and services through the website.

"Another aim of the website is to boost inward investment. It is in the interests of Merton’s community as a whole that companies decide to base themselves here."
