Collectables guru Gary Ashburn is joining the Cash in the Attic website valuers who are set to have us all looking through our lofts this summer.

The BBC’s Cash in the Attic series is a hit in 160 countries worldwide. Now the brand is launching a new website offering collectors and enthusiasts low cost valuations, tips and advice from a panel of industry experts like Gary – plus the chance to turn that tat in the attic into hard cash!

“Cashintheattic.com is like a one-stop-shop for collectables and memorabilia,” said Gary, who lives in Croydon.

“People can interact with experts through the site, get online valuations and read lots of interesting stories and articles about antiques and collectables.

“With cashintheattic.com you can build up the provenance and authenticity of your collectibles, get a genuine valuation and buy and sell in a safe environment.”

So what would his ideal find be from the new Cash in the Attic website?

“On a personal level, if someone is sitting with the hand- written lyrics of John Lennon’s Imagine, I would bite their hands off for it – especially if they only wanted two hundred quid for it – in reality, it could be worth several million dollars,” he said.

Condition is vitally important and documentation that proves the article is genuine can make a huge difference to the value. But Gary warns: “You should always collect because you enjoy it and it gives you pleasure rather than financial gain.

“Because it’s speculation and things can go down in value – there’s no guarantee they will go up.”

To get your antique, collectable or memorabilia valued, you just go to the site, register, upload pictures or videos and a description of the item you would like more information about, and the experts will get back to you.
