Dear Sir,

It was reported in the Surrey Comet on the 11th April that Luminar is hoping to sponsor Street Pastors in Kingston and that Luminar would be working with Street Pastors to ‘extend patrols throughout the town centre’.

Although it is true that Luminar is looking to sponsor Street Pastors Kingston and we welcome their support, alongside that of McCluskys and Weatherspoons, Street Pastors would like to emphasise that Street Pastor teams do already cover the whole town centre, and then some.

Street Pastors Kingston launched in December 2005 and has been on the streets of Kingston Town Centre since June 16th 2006, covering all the night time venues from 10pm until 4pm, (our latest time out has been till 5.30am), on Fridays and Saturdays.

Our brief is to Help, Listen and Care for vulnerable people in those hours, so far putting in 16,560 man and women hours, speaking to over 23,000 people and being involved in 1369 situations.

Street Pastors Kingston is delighted to be working with the police, door staff, taxi marshals, paramedics, Kingston First and the venues to keep our young people safe at night.

All the team are volunteers and as such are all heroes, giving their time to Kingston and its visitors at a time when most of Kingston sleeps, if you want to find out more you could visit our website at www.kingston.streetpastors.org.uk, donate, post a photo or leave a comment.
