Two teenagers, who shot an aspiring rapper dead at point blank range outside his family home, were jailed for life today.

Best friends Sanchez Thomas and Kyrone Daley, both 19, will both spend decades behind bars for conspiring to kill 25-year-old Umar Tufail as he sat his car in Wharncliffe Road, South Norwood on July 15 last year.

Thomas, who judge Stephen Kramer said probably pulled the trigger, will spend at least 25 years in prison, while his accomplice Daley will serve at least 22 years.

The victim's father, Saj Tufail, applauded the jury before leaving the court in tears at the end of an emotional hearing.

Seconds earlier, a woman in the public gallery had clapped and shouted "well done" to Daley and Thomas as the killers were led from the dock to jail.

Judge Kramer said each had played a different role in a murder with its origins in a running feud between Thomas and Umar's younger brother, Amir.

Judge Kramer said: "It seems that the motive lives in the gang culture in London in which guns are too readily available.

He then told the killers: "I'm satisfied your motive was revenge.

"Whether by accident or design you took that revenge on the brother of the one who slighted you."

He told them that in killing Umar, who was not involved in gangs, they had devastated his family and thrown away their own lives.

During a four-week trial at the Old Bailey, a jury heard how the pair had "deliberately executed" Mr Tufail - whose younger brother Amir had a running feud with Daley.

Daley, of Unity Close, Upper Norwood and Thomas, of no fixed address, pulled up in car alongside the Vauxhall Corsa Mr Tufail shared with his family, before one of them shot him in the head with a handgun.

Thomas then drove away in a car a borrowed from his mother, with Daley in the passenger seat.

During the trial, the court heard how Daley had tried to put the blame on Thomas, who himself claimed a third man - known as 'Pauser' - had murdered Mr Tufail.

But both were found guilty of murder as joint enterprise - even though who pulled the trigger has never been identified.

Your Local Guardian: Umar Tufail died after being shot in South Norwood

Umar Tufail was described by his father, Sajid, as "a very nice guy with a gentle soul"

At the beginning of the trial, jurors were played CCTV footage showing Thomas and Daley travelling by car from Unity Close to Umar's neighbourhood.

Prosecutor William Boyce told jurors: "Two young men have driven through south London with a real, loaded gun. One of them has then deliberately executed a young man.

"You do not shoot someone in the head unless you intend to kill him.

"And you would not even think of doing that with someone sat next to you unless he was in it with you."

Umar's father, Sajid, described his son as "a very nice guy, a gentle soul."

He added: "He gave without asking for anything in return.

"He was a very positive guy and so caring and popular. They loved him at work, he learnt everything. They said he was indispensible."
