More than 500 dog walkers, joggers, cyclists and passers-by looking for a cheeky cup of tea attended the official re-opening of the Beddington Park Cafe on Good Friday.

The cafe, which has been closed for more than two years, has been brought back to life by sister and brother-in-law team Kellie Castle and Aaron Blackman who share a vision to turn it into a “comfortable community venue that welcomes everyone.”

Mrs Castle said: “It’s been really hard work, but incredibly satisfying.

“Everyone has been very supportive and now we just want to settle in and turn our cafe into a centre of the community.”

Showing a real community spirt, they have lined the walls with work from a local photographer, created a small children’s play area and they plan to use part of the space for a farmers’ market and craft fairs.

Councillor Graham Tope, vice-chair of Sutton Council’s environment and neighbourhoods committee, said: “We are delighted to see this cafe back in use as a valuable resource for everyone in the community.

“I wish Kellie and Aaron every success in their new venture and I will certainly be enjoying a cup of tea there myself from time to time.”
