Morrisons has today unveiled new designs for its proposed store in Weybridge, after it was initially thrown out by Elmbridge Council in October.
The supermarket wants to develop the former Focus DIY store in Monument Hill, despite opposition from residents and community groups.
The new store responds to feedback received on the supermarket's initial application and is smaller, its design is much more in keeping with its surroundings and the Weybridge Conservation Area and it introduces a public space along Monument Hill.
Richard Haynes, development executive for Morrisons, said: “What became clear with our first application is that we did not have the designs completely right.
“We have learned from that and taken the feedback on board. Our new building has a completely new design, is smaller, lower, more sympathetic to its surroundings and introduces high quality public space along Monument Hill.
“It is a much stronger proposition for the town as a result. The changes include reducing the height of the entrance by 3.5m, introducing a stepped design up Monument Hill and reducing the volume of the store by the equivalent of six competition-sized swimming pools.”
The new plans will be on show on Thursday, March 21, between 1.30pm and 9pm at the Parish Centre, St James Parish Church, Weybridge KT13 8DN.
The scheme website, morrisonsweybridge.co.uk, will also be updated on the day.
