Libraries across the borough are putting on a series of events next month as part of the London-wide scheme Cityread.
Activities are based around Sebastian Faulks’ novel, A Week in December, which was selected as Cityread’s book of choice in 2013.
James Mayhew, illustrator and author of the Katie picture book series, will be launching Croydon’s Cityread at Central Library on Thursday March 28 at 4pm.
A poetry competition for children and adults will also run throughout the month.
Prizes include Crystal Palace tickets and gift vouchers.
Councillor Tim Pollard, cabinet member for children, families and learning, said: “We’re always looking for ways to promote reading in Croydon and this month-long celebration of the joy of books is a great way of joining up with the rest of London to encourage more people to share this productive and educational hobby.”
