Wimbledon’s HMV has escaped closure for now following an announcement by the high street music retailer to close 66 stores this morning.
HMV, which has 238 stores in the UK including one in Wimbledon and the HMV Curzon cinema, called in administrators last month.
Nick Edwards, Joint Administrator of Deloitte, said: "As part of our ongoing review of HMV’s financial position, we have now completed a review of the store portfolio and have identified 66 loss making stores for closure.
"This step has been taken in order to enhance the prospects of securing the business’ future as a going concern.
"We continue to receive strong support from staff and are extremely grateful to them for their commitment during an understandably difficult period.
"All other key stakeholders remain very supportive and I continue to be hopeful of securing a future for the restructured business."
Among the stores earmarked for closure are Wandsworth, Croydon Centrale and the London Trocadero store.
While no announcement has been made in regard to the future of the popular HMV Curzon cinema in Wimbledon, the cinema has said it hopes to remain open in the long term and is in conversations with involved parties.
