Wimbledon tennis star Laura Robson is the darling of the Australian Open after a beating the eighth seed Petra Kvitova in a dramatic late-night match.
The 19-year-old beat the 2011 Wimbledon champion from the Czech Republic 2-6, 6-3, 11-9 to reach the third round in Melbourne.
Her reward is a rematch with the American number 29 seed Sloane Stephens, who beat Robson in the first round of the Hobart International two weeks’ ago.
In a match that went beyond midnight local time, Robson lost the first set to the 22-year-old Grand Slam winner, only to charge back in the second and then hold her nerve in a 94-minute final set.
