Wrestling royalty will grace the Fairfield Halls this Friday, as the iconic venue celebrates its 50th year of showcasing the sport.

The star-studded Legends Night will see the venue’s very first wrestling line-up take to the spotlight once again, more than five decades after their very first Croydon clashes.

The night will see a host of famous names, including Mick McManus, “the man you love to hate”, who will revisit the scene of his notorious spar with Linde Caulder back in 1962.

Wayne Bridges and Pete Roberts are also big names on the bill, while the master of disaster Mark “Rollerball” Rocco will fly over from Tenerife especially for the night. Brian Dixon of All-Star Promotions, who is behind the event, says: “This could be the last time we have all these huge wrestling stars in one room, which is a real occasion in itself. It will be a real nostalgic night for any wrestling fan.”

As well as veterans of the ring, more recent heroes of British wrestling such as Danny Boy Collins and former WWE star Dave “Fit” Finlay will be present.

South London star James Mason is due to return to his home turf, after being the first to gain the title of Welsh Wrestling Champion in 2010. The icons of wrestling past and present will also answer questions submitted by audience members at this unique event, which will be filmed in its entirety as part of a BBC Four documentary.
