Epsom Downs Racecourse will be teaming up with leading UK production company PEEL this summer to bring the literary classic, Black Beauty to life in a summer theatre production from July 22 to 24. The novel, which charts one horse’s journey through life in Victorian England, was written by Norfolk author Anna Sewell in 1877. The book has sold over fifty million copies worldwide and is firmly established as one of the best-selling works of all time. The story has been adapted for live dramatisation by PEEL writer, James Stone, whilst the company’s managing director, Susannah Daley, who is also an award-winning playwright, will be taking the reigns as producer. Susannah Daley said: “I am thrilled to be teaming up with Epsom Downs Racecourse to bring the story of Black Beauty to life. “It is the first time we have brought a theatrical dramatisation to a racecourse and where better to tell Anna Sewell’s classic than at a world-class horse racing arena such as this.” Rupert Trevelyan, managing director of Epsom Downs Racecourse added: “At Epsom Downs Racecourse we celebrate the power and energy of horse-racing so there is a perfect synergy between the story of Black Beauty and our beautiful course. “I’m delighted to be able to add value for all our visitors, not just race enthusiasts but theatre and arts lovers alike.” Visitors to the Epsom Downs Racecourse will also get the chance to meet Black Beauty with a real-life horse on-show in traditional 19th century work-horse attire. Tickets are priced at £18 for adults, £15 for concessions and £10 for children. For more information visit epsomdowns.co.uk/tickets
