The critically acclaimed Clockhouse Theatre Company is performing Oscar Wilde's The Importance of Being Earnest, this weekend at St Mary's Church, Putney.

Described as fun, witty and fast-paced, the play turns human deception into a comical affair.

Usually known for it's Shakespeare productions, Clockhouse is taking on a challenge with Wilde's classic.

“This is a very exciting for us, as we will be performing Oscar Wilde for our very first time," says director Maggie Edwards.

"We wanted to widen our focus so that we could bring our own style to other classics."

Established in 2006 with the aim to make Shakespeare as accessible and enjoyable as possible for it's audience, the company has a strong educational programme, and a signature style which utilises multi-role playing.

After a successful production of A Midsummer Night's Dream, the company is happy to be returning to St Mary's.

"While the company will certainly continue to perform Shakespeare, we are absolutely delighted to be returning to Putney," says Edwards.

"The most important thing to us is that the audience leaves with a smile on their faces, having a enjoyed a good night out of quality entertainment.”
