He may be dominated by bad luck and personal insecurities but everyone loves Charlie Brown.

The cartoon strip character, 60 this year, is one of those fictional people you can't help having a soft spot for as no matter how many times he gets knocked down, he bounces back up again full of endless hope and determination.

Next week, Putney Theatre Company is bringing him back to life with the 1967 off-Broadway musical comedy You're A Good Man Charlie Brown.

Based on Charles M Schultz’s beloved characters from the comic strip Peanuts, expect to see everything from Charlie Brown's famous but useless baseball team to Snoopy's doghouse, Linus' blanket and Schroeder's piano.

"I am sure I watched all the cartoons as a kid," says director Elly Lacey.

"It's one of those things that I would imagine everyone knows about.

"Our version is really similar to how the cartoons are set up.

"There isn't really a plot, it's more little stories and sketches and is really fast-paced and never stops.

"At the end of every scene there's a punch line so there are always jokes.

"I think the cast found it very easy to regress to be like children.

"With the songs and everything you cannot help but be a bit kid-like and jump around and skip so hopefully there will be lots of laughing and clapping and dancing in the aisles."
