Local dancers Niamh Rush and Rebecca Almodovar will be among 100 performers aged between 8 – 18 chosen from a recent very competitive audition to perform in a new adaptation and dramatic ballet - Giselle.

Rush, who attends Mitcham's St Thomas of Canterbury School, will perform in 3 performances at the New Wimbledon Theatre on 16th and 17th April.

The professional dancers who take to the stage with English Youth Ballet will be guest artist David Kierce, principal dancer from Northern Ballet Theatre.

He will be partnered by Julianne Rice Oxley together with Emma Lister, Lorien Slaughter, Alex Newton and Matthew Powell and character artist Trevor Woods previously from English National Ballet.

The story of Giselle is set on an English country estate with an ‘upstairs, downstairs flavour’ and is about a young girl, Giselle, who is betrayed by the unfaithful Prince Albert.

As it is a completely new production staged for English Youth Ballet the costumes are magnificent and with pretty scenery and spectacular dancing this production brings the ballet into the 21st century with warmth, colour and drama.
