Watch out! Super villains are descending on to the streets of Croydon this weekend.

Inspired by the 70th anniversary of Marvel Comics, a group of residents has taken matters into its own hands by forming a league of masked criminals, with girls in sexy costumes and men in silly ones.

Thankfully though, their powers are restricted to The Brief pub in George Street - oh and it's all make believe too.

The villains are in fact just characters in The Breakfast Cat Theatre Company's No More Heroes play, its follow up to last year's Nightmare at the Shoe Museum starring Croydon band Ten Foot Nun.

"The play has been written to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Marvel Comics," said writer Roberto Prestoni.

"But apart from the obvious influence of comic book characters, the play also evokes the trappings of a Pinter play, the bickering dialogue of a Tarantino script, and the downright silliness of a Young Ones episode."

The company launched last year almost by accident, when Ten Foot Nun wanted something special for a gig at The Brief and came up with the idea of bringing album Nightmare at the Show Museum to life via the medium of theatre.

They enlisted Roberto to thrash out a storyline and together they produced a hugely acclaimed performance of predominantly instrumental music while in front of them Roberto and actors told their story via mime.

Such was the response from the performance that Roberto was forced to bow to pressure and pressganged into producing this follow up set in Croydon that stays away from mime this time around.

So will the super villains run rampant or will the borough’s finest foil their plot? There's only one way to find out...
