Amateur dramatics group PLOS Theatre Company will be presented their own version of Stephen Sondheim's Company next week at Putney Arts Theatre.

Directed by Jonny Clines, who also did the well received Crazy for You, Copacabana and numerous pantomimes, the musical was originally a collection of one-act plays written by librettist George Furth.

It was shaped into its modern form by legendary director Harold Prince, who advised Furth to rework the plays into a single libretto examining the pros and cons of marriage, with Sondheim brought in to provide the music.

The plot revolves around Bobby, a single man unable to commit fully to a steady relationship, let alone marriage, the five married couples who are his best friends, and his three girlfriends.

Unlike most book musicals, Company is a concept musical composed of short vignettes, presented in no particular chronological order and linked only by a celebration for Bobby's 35th birthday.
