For the Precarious Performance Company the credit crunch couldn't have come at a better time.

The Bristol-based group's multimedia production The Factory is all about why people always want new things even if they can't afford them or don't need them, and the recent tightening of the public's purse-strings ties-up perferctly with that.

"This is the second tour we have done of The Factory," said Karla Shacklock, the groups co-artistic director who also cheographed and stars in the performance.

"The credit crunch was just starting to be around during the first tour but now we are right in the midst of it and the show is coming more and more relevant to the audience.

"We use the idea of the factory as a metaphor that these days people are comsumers and live consumer lifestyles, wanting to to buy things all the time.

"We think we need new stuff but cannot afford it, people are working day in day out to but things they perhaps don't need.

"We are not making a big statement or preaching to anyone, we are just encouraging people to think about it and how it impacts their own lives."

The performance is a physical threatre piece mixed with multimedia, such as original text, an original music score composed specifically for the production and a lot of video.

"The video is projected all over the space," said Karla.

"We use six projectors and they are projected on to boxes, the cast, walls, all over the space.

"That's the thing that gets people most excited as maybe a little person travels from one prop to another.

"The show is completely intermedia, all the way through there's sound and video with people moving and dancing at the same time.

"The set is made up of hundreds of cardboards boxes that are moved around to become all different sorts of spaces.

"It's dark in places but light as well and there's a bit of comedy in there."
