One of the world’s most renowned pianists will be performing this weekend in Claygate, as part of the Oxshott and Cobham Music Society’s Celebrity Concert.

Nikolai Demidenko will be performing with the Hermitage String Trio at the Holy Trinity Church in Church Road on Saturday, January 24.

The schedule will include works by Schubert, Taneyev and Brahms, in a venue that has been described by musicians and audiences alike as an ideal performing space.

Demidenko’s passionate pianism means that he is in demand worldwide. Russian born and trained, he is proud to have been granted British citizenship in 1995, having lived in the UK since 1990.

Frequent London recitals have included the Great Performers series at the Barbican Concert Hall, the International Piano Series at South Bank Centre and recently the London Pianoforte Series at the Wigmore Hall - a Chopin recital which was featured as the only live performance in BBC Radio 3’s Chopin Experience.

He is renowned for his authoritative performances of the Russian concerto repertoire such as Prokofiev, Rachmaninov and Tchaikovsky, and has worked with many conductors and orchestras throughout the world.

Recently he has established a flourishing relationship with the new Hermitage String Trio.

He said: “This ensemble will do much to put more string trio repertory on the musical map.”

The trio are also becoming well-known in the West, and in London they have performed in many prestigious venues, including St John’s Smith Square and Wigmore Hall.

The concert starts at 8pm and tickets cost £17. Young people aged between eight and 22 can get in for free.
