South London’s Hollywood star Bill Nighy is set for an intimate evening of conversation in Wandsworth.

The stage and screen legend, who was born in Caterham and studied at the John Fisher School in Purley, will discuss his long and distinguished career with journalist Jonathan Maitland at Omnibus on Friday, September 30.

Nighy, 66, made his London stage debut in 1977 and on stage has appeared in the likes Tom Stoppard’s Arcadia. He won an Olivier Award for his performance in Bill Penhall’s Blue/Orange.

His film hits include Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, Dad’s Army, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and Love Actually.

Chatting to Nighy about the ups and downs of his working life will be Jonathan Maitland, the former BBC News and Today programme journalist who started his career at Sutton Guardian and went on to present ITV’s flagship current affairs show Tonight. His debut play Dead Sheep was about the Geoffrey Howe speech that brought down Thatcher and his second, An Audience with Jimmy Savile, broke box office records at the Park Theatre.

Tickets cost £20 or £18 concessions. Go to omnibus-clapham.org
