Six aspiring authors meet on a winter’s evening to discuss their work, only for the meeting to descend into mayhem as the hapless chairman tries to control them.

Premiered at the Stephen Joseph Theatre, Scarborough, in 2005, Improbable Fiction toured nationally the following year and now graces the stage at the Vera Fletcher Hall.

In the first act, the group of writers reveal what they are working on, with one showing her illustrations for a children’s book, while another talks about her vision for a period romance novel.

The rest of the group share their ideas, but all have weaknesses within their writing and are unwilling to help each other overcome the problems.

At the end of the meeting, five writers go home leaving just one, Ilsa, waiting with Arnold, the group’s chairman.

As the lights go out, Arnold sees Ilsa walk towards him with a candle and a knife and he screams out as the first acts ends.

Throughout the second act, Arnold continues to spend time inside the imagination of the members of the group and delves into the world of sci-fi, crime and alien abductions, subject they have all visualised for their next novels.
