Comedy TV favourite and witty satirist Marcus Brigstocke will bring his new stand-up routine from the Edinburgh Fringe to Fairfield Halls, writes Victoria Bull.

The award-winning Brigstocke, known for appearances on Have I Got News for You, QI and Would I Lie to You, performed his latest show, The Brig Society, nightly during the Fringe festival before embarking upon a UK autumn tour.

The Brig Society tackles the complexities of everyday life in the 21st century through jokes and anecdotes fuelled by irony and ire.

His most famous joke sums up the ironic social commentary in his comedy - "If Pac-Man had affected us as kids, we'd all be running around in dark rooms, munching pills and listening to repetitive electronic music."

His latest routine is described as an invitation to "re-engineer the systems in society that don’t help us to be happy, live well, listen to good music, dance, and eat whatever cheese we want to eat."

As well as his TV back-catalogue, Brigstocke is familiar as for his cameo role as a radio DJ in the film Love Actually, and successful career presenting comedy slots on BBC Radio 4.

The stand-up star also performs as King Arthur in the Monty Python musical Spamalot in the West End.

His new show, which hits Croydon next month, promises blisteringly funny observations on political scandals, economic incompetence, religious hypocrisy and simple human stupidity - no topic is out of bounds.
