Noel Edmonds may have dressed up as a bearded woman for a bizarre YouTube video about the BBC but he claims it’s because he’s genuinely concerned about people watching Noel’s House Party illegally.
Noel, who donned a wig, dress and string of pearls to play the part of BBC spokeswoman Priscilla Prim, acknowledged: “There is something similar in our DNA.”
Chatting from his home in Somerset, Noel said: “She came into my life about six months ago. She’s a posh spokesperson retained by the BBC, who I support wholeheartedly in their quest to stop people watching Noel’s House Party illegally online.
“She’s pointing out that it’s wrong for people to go online to watch it.”
The odd video has clocked up more that 9,000 views since it was posted and Noel promises there will be more to come.
He said: “She will be tackling some of the major issues to our time – Brexit, HS2, climate change.”
Noel even joked that Priscilla has been inundated with offers of representation, saying: “Even Simon Cowell offered to handle her.”
In the video, Priscilla refers to Noel’s House Party as “jolly good family entertainment, of the kind with which we no longer with to be associated.”
She said: “By watching Noel’s House Party and telling your friends about it, you’re reminding them of a bygone age, when we at the BBC had an entertainment department.
“This was closed down when we ran out of ideas of how to entertain the public in a way in which they found entertaining.”
The TV presenter has recently hit out at his former employer, telling the Sunday Mirror that BBC executives “haven’t a clue what makes a hit show.”
