David Oyelowo, who was snubbed at the Oscars and Baftas, received a nod for breakthrough performance for his role as Martin Luther King in Selma.
The Fault In Our Stars’ Ansel Elgort, The Maze Runner’s Dylan O’Brien and Boyhood star Ellar Coltrane are his rivals for breakthrough performance.
Marvel’s space adventure Guardians Of The Galaxy, tear-jerker The Fault In Our Stars and comedy Bad Neighbours lead the nominations with seven nods each, followed by 22 Jump Street and Whiplash with five.
Jennifer Lawrence, Emma Stone, Shailene Woodley, Reese Witherspoon and Scarlett Johansson face each other in the best female performance field, while Bradley Cooper, Chris Pratt, Ansel Elgort, Miles Teller and Channing Tatum are rivalsfor the best male performance prize.
Model Kate Upton is the only female nominated for best shirtless performance, where she is up against hunks such as Zac Efron, Chris Pratt, Channing Tatum and Ansel Elgort.
Comedian Amy Schumer will host the ceremony, which takes place at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, California, on April 12.
