Most men have been looking forward to this summer's World Cup with great excitement, while women like young singer-songwriter Natalie May have been dreading it.

So much so in fact, that she has written a song, wonderfully called I Wish I Was A Football, about the lack of attention her gender have to endure when football takes over television for this very special month.

"The girls are not likely to get a look in when it comes to control of the TV remote, affection, conversation and maybe even sex during the World Cup tournament," says May, who will be singing the single at The Half Moon next Friday.

Here are lyrics:

"The whole day you haven't said a word, you say there's nothing wrong, but you won't explain yourself to me and it's getting me angry.

"The moment you find the PRO 10, your face lights up, here we go again, and I hate it, it makes me want to break your game kit.

(start of chorus)

"But if my name was Premier League, you'd have so much time for me, you'd cancel everything to see me.

"I wish a was football, then I would be more important than your friends, you'll be loyal to the end.

"Maybe if I was PRO 10, you'd also think of me then and I would not be sitting here alone, waiting for you by the phone.

(end of chorus)

"I done some painting, I thought you'd notice, but when you walked in you started running round the room like you're mad, all because your team won the match.

"One thing I will say is your sure are loyal even if it's to a black and white football.

"Am I jealous? Am I hating? It would be nice to maybe get all your attention.

"But if my name was Premier League, you'd have so much time for me, you'd cancel everything to see me.

"I wish I was a football then I would be more important than your friends, you'll be loyal to the end.

"Maybe if I was PRO 10, you'd also think of me then and I would not be sitting here alone, waiting for you by the phone."
