We've all had moments and events happen to us that have made us re-evaluate our lives - for Lenny Zakatek that moment was a heart bypass.

The man known as The Voice, for his singing on Alan Parsons Project songs such as I Wouldn’t Want To Be Like You and Games People Play as well as the huge disco hit I Haven’t Stopped Dancing Yet with Gonzalez, went under the knife a couple of years ago and realised he was no longer doing what he wanted to be doing with his life - singing.

"I had a heart bypass a few years ago and I realised my first love was always singing and I just wanted to go back to it," says the 62-year-old who has lived in Croydon since he was 13.

"I thought I would like to go and do festivals with a live band so spent about 18 months trying to find the right guys for the band and now here we are."

Lenny plays at Botley Hill Farmhouse a week on Friday with a set featuring 11 of the Alan Parsons Project songs he sung on between 1977 and 1987.

It will be only the second time he has performed them since recording them.

"This is one of only two UK dates and it will be the first time I have actually sung the songs I sung with Alan Parson's Project," he says.

"Apart from singing it in the studio 30 years ago I haven't sung them again, it's like learning a whole set of new songs.

"We did do one gig about 20 years ago in Belgium actually which was sort of like a night at the proms.

"It was a massive thing and we went out to 60,000 people over three nights but that was the only thing we ever did."

In a career spanning more than four decades, Lenny has worked with the likes of INXS and Bon Jovi through to Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell.

"One of the biggest was playing with Bob Marley," he recalls.

"When I was with Gonzalez we did five night at Hammersmith Appollo on the same bill as him.

"In between the games we used to play football in the car park, the Gonzalez 11 versus the Bob Marley 11.

"At the time I just saw these people as people."
