Before he looked through keyholes, judged other people's cooking skills or invented his own pasta sauces, Loyd Grossman was a punk-rock star - hard to believe I know, but true nonetheless.

Now, after Gregg Wallace and John Torode ruthlessly stole the Masterchef job off him, Grossman has gone back to his routes and in 2007 reformed his old American punk band, Jet Bronx and The Forbidden, and called them The New Forbidden.

With Grossman's 1968 Gibson guitar driving the music and his old friend Valentine Guinness singing lead vocal, the band produce a sound with an angst-ridden edge clearly still influenced by the golden age of new wave.

Originally, they just planned to get Grossman on stage at the Rebellion Festival in August 2008 but as the gigs and the new songs stacked up, it became clear the project was here to stay.

In February they released their first album, Ain't Doin' Nothing, which they will be playing tracks from at their gig at the Halfmoon on Wednesday.
