Acclaimed singer Christine Collister certainly knows how to win over the music critics. Q magazine said of her: “..so much soul you think she’d been signed by Motown,” while Mojo said: “Christine Collister can sing the birds down off the trees and send them back with a tiny flick of her vocal chords.” Even The Times described her voice as “personally delivered by God”.
Now you can catch this homegrown talent for yourself as Christine comes to the Halfmoon pub in Putney. The singer-songwriter spans the folk, blues and jazz genres and was a member of the Richard Thompson band before landing the gig of singing the theme song for the BBC's 1986 television adaptation of Fay Weldon's book, The Life and Loves of a She-Devil.
Collister also enjoyed several years writing and touring with singer-songwriter and guitarist Clive Gregson, during which time they released five critically-acclaimed albums. A new album is pencilled in for a 2009 release and Collister has been beavering away of late in the studio, so perhaps she will be showcasing some material when she comes to Putney on Sunday.
