The legendary Soho jazz venue Ronnie Scott’s is decamping for one night only to Marble Hill when two stars of the BBC Jazz Awards are to perform a tribute to the grand old man of British jazz, Humphrey Lyttelton.

Ronnie Scott’s in the Park comes to Marble Hill, Twickenham, on Sunday, August 24, and regular performers at the world-renowned club, Guy Barker and Ian Shaw, are to perform a fitting tribute to ‘Humph’, the traditional jazz pioneer who died in April.

In the latter part of his career Lytellton was perhaps best known for fronting Radio 4’s popular panel show I’m Sorry I Haven’t Clue, but the late trumpeter and bandleader was posthumously named artist of the year at this year’s BBC Jazz Awards.

Barker and Shaw performed a song at the ceremony at the Mermaid Theatre which was written by Lyttelton shortly before his death. The pair will perform the song again to thousands at the Marble Hill concert.

Also hitting the stage at Ronnie Scott’s In The Park will be celebrated singer-saxophonist Curtis Stigers, last year’s winner of Best International Artist at the BBC Jazz Awards. There will also be special guest appearances from Radio 2 presenter Claire Teal - a highly acclaimed singer with unmistakable warm, sultry tones and new swing vocal sensation Peter Grant.

The world famous Ronnie Scott’s Big Band will perform a superb mix of the coolest jazz and swing classics made famous by a range of artists including Count Basie, Duke Ellington and the Rat Pack. To help the evening go with even more of a swing organisers are encouraging concert-goers to bring a picnic. Food and drink will also be available to purchase on the night. The star-studded extravaganza will then be rounded off with a spectacular firework display.

Ronnie Scott’s in the Park, in association with English Heritage and ice cream specialist Carte D’Or, is part of a national 2008 Summer Proms and Smooth series and promises to be a great combination of wonderful music and fabulous fireworks in a magical summer setting.
