Bunga Bunga is not to be mistaken for one of Silvio Berlusconi's notorious parties, but a new South London based Italian restaurant.

The 'Englishman's Italian' in Battersea Bridge Road is all about having fun and sharing food whilst you're at it.

Italian waiters serve dishes wearing stripy t-shirts and Michelangelo aprons, whilst cocktails are named after Berlusconi himself.

Decor is exaggerated to the max, with a tongue-in-cheek atmosphere punctuating the restaurant.

But despite the wicked humour and pizza names like Julius Cheeser the food is seriously tasty.

On arriving the helpful waitress explains the food is like Italian tapas and it is best to order dishes to share, if you can bear to.

My friend and I chose the bunga board, a selection of six cured meats including bresaola, milano salami and wild boar (£15).

With each meat costing about £5 each to order on its own the board is a bargain and very filling.

The meats are complimented with crusty bread, with the gamey-tasting wild boar standing out as the favourite.

We also tucked into a tricolore salad of avocado, tomato and mozzarella which was really fresh and comes with the option to order a small (£5.50) or large (£8.50) version.

Home baked focaccia (£2) was delicious and fluffy, whilst polenta chips (£2.50) topped with parmesan were crisp and a refreshing change from usual greasy side fries.

Everything comes served on rustic wooden boards and in little dishes, making it easy to share with the rest of the table.

The cocktails served at the decadent bar at the front of the restaurant are also worthy of a mention.

I went for Berlusconi's Bellini, named after the shamed ex-Prime Minister, is a light mix of pear puree and prosecco topped with a pansy priced at £7.50.

The Bunga Bellini is for sweet-tooths only and is a thick blueberry and pomegrante puree, topped with martini rosato and garnished with a chocolate swirl served long (£7.50) By 8pm the restaurant is buzzing with after-work drink types, several parties of people and those making the journey down from Chelsea.

Folk band Barberella's played from 8pm adding to the ambience and the owner of the restaurant can be spotted chatting to customers.

A visit to Bunga Bunga is recommended and a great venue to book a meal out for a large group out celebrating.
