There is currently a vibrant exhibition of paintings and sculpture in the Robert Phillips Gallery at Riverhouse Barn in Walton on Thames by James Tait, a Shepperton artist.
The show runs from 12th February to 9th March and is open Monday to Saturday 10-4, and Sunday from 2.30-4.30 James has lived in Shepperton for seventeen years and works mainly in a workshop studio in Hersham, and occasionally in France. James combines the art side of his life with a business as a stage set designer and builder for corporate conferences (Set to Go).
The works are largely abstracts based on the landscape as inspiration. It is a very colourful exhibition with contemporary pieces set in a fresh, modern gallery space.
The paintings are all works on paper using bright poster colours, some with added details of pastel, charcoal and graphite. There are some wall hung bas-relief sculptures in painted wood, and two very large painted steel structures, which are very imposing in the interior gallery space.
Do go along and have a look: you will be pleasantly surprised. All the pieces are for sale at very moderate prices; maybe even just buy a postcard!
