A new BBC sitcom set in an advertising agency has been fliming at Teddington Studios over the last few months. It’s your final chance to catch a recording of this new series at the studios on Thursday. One of the shows stars Adam Buxton, one half of the magnificent Adam and Joe, spoke to Will Gore.

Tell us about the show and your character?

It’s set mainly in an a fictional London agency called HHH&H and I play Greg Bannister who is an account director. It’s Greg’s job to be the lukewarm water between the creatives who come up with the slogans and the ideas for the ads and the clients who are paying to have their products advertised. As a result Greg is constantly being bullied by the monstrous agency boss, Australian Clive (Jarred Christmas), a succession of horrific clients and to a lesser degree by his friends Billy (Iain Lee) and Emma (Daisy Haggard). The feel of the show is quite cartoonish and demented, which is appropriate because that’s what most people in advertising are like as far as I can tell!

Are you enjoying the chance to act in a sitcom?

I’ve been in a few sitcoms but this is the biggest part I’ve done and I’m having a great time. The rest of the cast are very funny, we’ve got a great director, a lovely crew and apart from anything else it’s been wonderful shooting in Teddington. I’ve been cycling from Stockwell every day and going through Richmond Park past all the deer every day makes you feel delighted to be alive.

Why is the advertising industry such a ripe target for a comedy show?

There seems to be a schism at the heart of advertising between the clients who just want the agencies to sell more of their product and the creatives who want to feel like artists creating works of timeless brilliance rather than stressed out trendies nicking ideas from films and TVs shows they’ve seen. That kind of conflict tends to make people in advertising behave in quite a ludicrous and amusing way, especially when such large sums of money are involved.

What's your favourite sitcom and why?

For sheer consistency and the brilliance of it’s observations I suppose it would have to be Seinfeld, but I love the Mighty Boosh and Flight Of The Conchords for their inventiveness and the huge charm of the worlds they create.

The final recording takes place at Teddington Studios on July 9. For more information and to secure a ticket, visit sroaudiences.com. The show will air on BBC Two in August.
