The Epsom Players are staging a production of the Gershwin classic Crazy for You this month.

Directed by Steve Green with musical direction by Nic Luker and choreography by Karen Ward, Crazy for You follows the story of Bobby Child - a well to do 1930s playboy whose dream in life is to dance.

Expect memorable Gershwin favourites in this high energy comedy including classics such as I Got Rhythm, They Can't Take That Away from Me, Nice Work if You Can Get It and Someone to Watch Over Me, as well as fabulous dance numbers and costumes.

Crazy for You began life in the 1930s Gershwin musical Girl Crazy which was also the Broadway debut of Ethel Merman and a 19-year-old Ginger Rogers while the orchestra contained future legends Glenn Miller and Benny Goodman.

In the early 90s the storyline was adapted by Ken Ludwig for a modern audience and Crazy for You was born.

The musical opening on Broadway on February 19 1992 and in the West End in March 1993.

Last summer a revival of the show at the Open Air Theatre in Regents Park proved so successful it was transferred to the West End where it is still being enjoyed by audiences today both young and old.

The Epsom Players, who last year celebrated their 100th anniversary, have performed at the Epsom Playhouse every year since it opened in 1984.

In July the group will be performing Sondheim’s Into the Woods and in August will take their 2011 production of Little Women to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, but not before entertaining crowds in Epsom with their recreation of the much loved musical Crazy for You.
