Comics Arthur Smith and Mark Steele are just two of the names appearing in library's across Streatham this month as the council launch Lambeth Readers and Writers Festival.

The duo will be doing a talk entitled Comic Writing for the Mid-Life Crisis on Thursday, May 14 at West Norwood Library as one of many free events throughout the borough.

Now in its sixth year the festival is London's primary library-based literature celebration and offers a month of creative events including readings, performances, workshops and music events.

Among others turning out will be South African novelist Gillian Slovo discussing her most recent novel, Black Orchid, at West Norwood Library on May 26, and Brendan McCarthy, one of Britain's most talented comic book creators and designers discussing his work at Minet Library on May 26.

The festival will close with a first as an entire orchestra will perform inside Brixton Library.

Unique 20-piece chamber group, North Sea Radio Orchestra, will play music from their latest album, Birds, described as ‘unique, captivating, beautiful, peaceful and thoughtful.’ For full listings see inside libraries or visit lambeth.gov.uk/libraries.
