Plans for a new 21-storey building with at least 70 per cent affordable housing has been approved.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan gave the green light to a development in 28-30 Addiscombe Grove, although if you are worried about construction works disturbing your day, then you are in luck.

This is because construction of the 153 homes will take place off-site. In other words, it will be built in a factory and then dropped into place.

Mr Khan said this was the way forward.

“Tackling London’s housing crisis requires bold new approaches," he said.

"We know turning things round will take time, but off-site construction is an innovative way to speed up building the affordable homes our city needs."

At minimum, 73 per cent of the homes will be made affordable for first-time buyers to purchase at a discount below the market price.

The developer, Pocket Living, has further agreed in principle to make the remaining homes available for shared ownership.

As part of the planning application submitted to Croydon Council, it says that despite the 153 homes, only four car parking spaces will be included in the design, all of which are disabled spaces.

Instead, 201 cycle parking spaces will be built.
