Balham residents wins opportunity to experience day at London 2012 Paralympic Games

Balham residents are set to experience a day at the London 2012 Paralympic Games. Deborah Nono, Marilyn Burgess, Patrick Walsh, Sam Seeler and Lennie Tomkins, who work at Sainsbury’s Balham, will be some of the 5,000 Sainsbury’s colleagues going to the Olympic Park on Monday 3rd September with guaranteed access to three wheelchair basketball matches after they nominated themselves or was nominated to win a place to attend the event.
Thousands of colleagues across the country entered in the hope to attend this once in lifetime trip to the Olympic Park. Marilyn was chosen because she continuously delivers exceptional service to our customers and is a loyal long standing colleague who lives in Balham.
Store Manager Wayne Vidler said: “It’s a fantastic opportunity for Marilyn and the other colleagues, they really deserves it. Across Balham, many of our colleagues have helped to raise the profile of the Paralympic Games. Marilyn has been a fantastic support in driving the Paralympic message in the community and I know Marilyn and our other four colleagues are now looking forward to cheering on Paralympic teams to glory”.
Marilyn added: “I’m really honoured to have been chosen from so many entries. I’ve really enjoyed helping local people to understand more about the Paralympic Games and it’s a great opportunity to meet other colleagues from across the country and learn about their Paralympic experience”.
Sainsbury’s is one of the main sponsors of the London 2012 Paralympic Games, which take place from 29th August to 9th September. Marilyn and colleagues have helped to raise the profile of this year’s Paralympic Games in Balham through a number of activities, including 1 Million Kids Challenge with local schools.
Marilyn and the other four colleagues from Balham will to the Olympic Park’s Basketball Arena in Stratford, East London to see Mexico vs Germany at 10.45am, they will also get the opportunity to visit Blind Football, Goalball and Wheelchair Tennis matches.
