3rd Teddington Beaver Scouts, aged 6-8 years old, have been raising money for Children in Need. They were keen to reflect the Beaver motto of ‘Being kind and helpful’ and so have been doing jobs for family, friends and neighbours. Each of the 24 beavers aimed to fill an empty Smartie tube with 20p donations. They had to eat the Smarties first of course! Their target was to complete 250 jobs. There is a prize for the beaver lodge (4 groups of 6) which has done most jobs.
By 18th November, Children in Need day, the group overall had done 252 jobs and they had raised £100. Jobs included: clearing leaves, washing up, tidying their room, cleaning cars and feeding the cat. Target exceeded but work continues until 24 November.
The BBC rewarded them with invites to their BBC London live broadcast from Hyde Park Winter Wonderland last Friday. So, seven beavers were part of the audience in Zippo’s circus tent for the live broadcast. Excitingly, they were interviewed for Radio London and then interviewed live on TV by the BBC presenter, Wendy Hurrell. Best of all though, was meeting Pudsey!
