Recruiting canoe polo champions at the Brentford Festival
2:21pm Wednesday 31st August 2011 in Your Say
EDGE, progressive paddling, a canoe club based in Brentford, will be recruiting for the new West London Canoe Polo team at this year’s Brentford Festival, Sunday 4th September 12-5pm.
Canoeing taster sessions for newcomers to the sport and canoe polo introductory sessions will be run through the afternoon for children and adults on the canal next to Boston Manor Park. No experience necessary, all kit provided.
Those keen to progress their skills and take part in a team sport will be encouraged to join the West London Canoe Polo training sessions, held every Wednesday at our base at Brentford Lock - look out for the goals in the finger dock. All kit and coaching is provided, with professional players running selected sessions. Players aged 16+ can go on to representing EDGE in the national championships next summer!
“Canoe polo’s a great way to keep fit, forget about the day you just had, and make the most of the canal and river right on your doorstep” says Victoria Bloom, Polo rep for EDGE.
Until EDGE/Brentford Boating Arch began to develop canoe polo there were no sessions local to Brentford, the nearest in Putney. Other London canoe polo teams practise in swimming pools, whereas EDGE is lucky to have access to an outdoor pitch, courtesy of British Waterways.
General canoeing sessions also available with Brentford Boating Arch, every Tuesday at Kew Bridge on the Thames, or look to join EDGE to develop skills in areas such as sea kayaking, whitewater kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding.
